Drop Off: Friday, 6:30 pm

Format: Backpacking style with each person providing their own food and drink. Everyone will camp in “basecamp” Friday night so all Scouts will need tents, sleeping bags and other camping essentials for Friday night.

This is an opportunity to earn the Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. As the name implies, scouts will learn skills useful if they find themselves spending unexpected time outdoors. On Saturday night, Scouts participating in the merit badge, must spend a night alone without a tent or sleeping bag in a simple shelter they have constructed earlier in the day. To spend this night, scouts must be at least Tenderfoot rank. Scouts that are not Tenderfoot, may participate in the rest of the course, but just not spend the night alone away from camp.

All scouts should bring a Wilderness Survival “kit” for their night away basecamp on Saturday night. Contents should include:

• Pocket knife
• Personal first-aid kit
• Extra clothing
• Rain gear
• Water bottle
• Flashlight
• Trail food/snack
• Matches and fire starters
• Small compass
• Paracord/strong twin/small rope
• Large 55 gallon trash back if you have one (I will bring a box also)
